Your Love, Your Way: Why Eloping or Scaling Back Might Be the Best Thing You Ever Do

April 30, 2025

When you picture your wedding day, does it look like a ballroom filled with 200 people… or does it look like a windswept clifftop, just you, your person, and the sound of waves crashing below?

For more and more couples, less is starting to feel like more. And as a Sunshine Coast wedding photographer who’s had the honour of documenting everything from big celebrations to tiny elopements, I can honestly say this: intimate weddings hold a kind of magic you can’t always find in the chaos of a traditional day.

They’re slower. Softer. More intentional.
And they’re not about skipping the celebration — they’re about making space for connection.

Scaling back doesn’t mean settling

Eloping or planning a small wedding doesn’t mean you’re compromising. In fact, it often means you’re choosing only the things that feel true to you — and letting the rest fall away.

No obligations. No extended guest lists of third cousins and plus-ones you’ve never met. No need to perform or tick boxes.

Just a day that reflects you two — your values, your story, your way.

The beauty in the quiet

What I love most about intimate weddings is the way they allow real moments to breathe.

There’s time to pause. To cry during your vows. To laugh hysterically over a shared inside joke without feeling rushed to the next “event.”
You can choose to get ready together. Or not. You can walk into the ceremony holding hands. You can have your dog as your witness. You can have dinner under the stars with your closest people — or no one at all.

With fewer logistics and less pressure, the emotional moments — the ones you’ll actually want to remember — have space to rise to the surface.

And as your photographer, that means I get to capture you as you are. Not staged. Not stiff. Just fully in the moment.

Your day, your rules (and I’m here for it)

Whether you’re dreaming of a barefoot beach elopement at sunrise or a small hinterland celebration with 20 of your favourite humans, know this: you don’t have to follow the script.

You get to make the rules. I’ll be there to help you break them beautifully.

If you’re planning an intimate wedding or elopement and looking for a Sunshine Coast wedding photographer who knows how to hold space and document the real, the raw, and the wildly romantic — I’d love to chat.
