What Happens if it Rains on Your Elopement or Wedding Day?

September 20, 2025

Okay, real talk. You can’t control the weather. And honestly? That’s the beauty of it.

So maybe you’ve been picturing sunshine pouring through the trees, a golden Coolum sunset, salty air on the Sunshine Coast. Then the forecast flips. Rain. Here’s the thing, your day isn’t ruined. It’s still your wedding. It’s still your love. And rain? Rain can make it even better.

Rain = Storytelling Gold

I’ve seen couples exchange vows under dripping trees, laugh under clear umbrellas, and run straight into the ocean mid-downpour. I’ve seen the way the rain slows everything down, how it makes you huddle close and laugh harder.

And the photos? Unreal. Moody skies, wet sand reflecting the light, colours that pop like crazy. That stormy, cinematic vibe you can’t fake. It’s honestly some of the best images I get to shoot.

How to Actually Embrace It

If you’re worried about rain, here’s what helps:

  • Bring a change of clothes. That way you can get soaked, play, and not stress about being soggy all night.
  • Clear umbrellas. They look cute in photos, keep you dry, and you’ll probably end up loving them.
  • Go barefoot. Trust me, soggy shoes are the worst. Bare feet on Coolum Beach? The best.
  • Be open. Let it happen. Dance in it. Laugh in it. Hold your person tighter. Those are the memories you’ll want to keep.

Choosing the Right Photographer Matters

Here’s the part no one tells you: when it rains, your photographer is the difference between photos that feel flat and photos that feel alive. Shooting in low light, moody skies, or unexpected downpours takes experience. It’s about knowing how to work with reflections, shadows, and movement so the weather feels intentional, not like a problem to fix.

I’ve photographed countless weddings and elopements across the Sunshine Coast, from Coolum Beach storms to misty hinterland rain. I know how to adapt quickly, guide you with ease, and make the weather feel like part of your story. You won’t need to worry about whether your photos will turn out. You can just be present, knowing I’ve got it covered.

The Forecast Doesn’t Define Your Day

I know it feels stressful in the moment. But years from now, you won’t be talking about the forecast. You’ll be talking about how your partner squeezed your hand when the first drops fell. How everyone piled under cover, laughing. How you kissed in the middle of it all and felt like the only two people in the world.

So If It Rains…

Your Sunshine Coast elopement or Coolum wedding is still going to be beautiful. Maybe even more beautiful than you expected.

Because no matter what the weather does, you’ll be there with your person. And I’ll be there with my camera, making sure every wild, imperfect, unforgettable moment gets captured.
